Opportunities to serve as a Regional Director in one of six regions are available for you. As a director, you will commit to a two-year term to help drive alternative education at the State level. Your commitment to attend two meetings per year, September and May, as well as the fall and spring conferences allows you to gain an in-depth understanding of alternative education in the State of Washington. The chance to lead, participate and plan conferences, work within budgetary constraints and policy making will provide you with a fulfilling and rewarding experience. As a State board member, you will meet people who share similar views of alternative education. You will also meet those who have developed innovative programs that are focused on the individual needs of the students we serve. OFFICIAL ELECTION RELEASE ELECTIONS 2012 Elections for the WALA Board will be held at the region meetings of the annual conference in Vancouver on March 2, 2012. Candidates for office must be a member of the organization and be present at the election. In the event no candidate submits his/her name for nomination by the established deadline, no name shall appear on the ballot and the person with the most write-in votes shall be declared the winner. Positions Up For Election: President-elect: Secretary: Region 1, Position 2: Region 2, Position 2: Region 3, Position 2: Region 4, Position 2: Region 5, Position 2: Region 6, Position 2: ARTICLE XII ELECTIONS A candidate for office must be a member of the organization. The Nominations Committee shall consist of three members who shall be selected by the Executive Committee no later than sixty (60) days prior to the annual meeting. The Nominations Committee shall submit the names of nominees for officers to the general membership no longer than thirty (30) days prior to the annual meeting. Nominations may be made from the floor at the business session of the annual meeting. The election shall take place at the annual region meetings of the organization. The Nominating Committee shall conduct voting by secret, written ballot. Election shall be by a majority vote of the votes cast. |
